Topic: Oil Spill Detection
Abstract (not more than 150 Words):
AUG has extensive experience in oil spill detection and monitoring using both multispectral/hyperspectral and SAR images. The open source Lansat-8, Sentinel-2, and many other optical sensors have been exploited in oil spill detection application. AUG’s unique technology can detect, analyze and monitor various features of oil slick such as size and thickness. It utilizes spectral information to provide enhanced, more accurate and detailed detection than traditional methods.
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is also applied for sea surface oil spill detection. AUG’s novel SAR oil spill detection algorithm applies to pre-processed SAR to provide detailed oil spill information such as location and coverage.
Additional analysis could also be provided using Ocean (OCN) products for wind, wave and currents estimation for the detected oil spill monitoring.
If both multispectral/hyperspectral sensors and SAR sensors are available, the fused results will provide complementary information for more accurate oil spill detection and monitoring.
